The Forgotten Battlefield Canvas

Much of the battle-ravaged terrain along the Western Front has been reclaimed by nature or converted to agricultural land. Some zones still remain toxic 100 years later and some are still plagued by unexploded ammunition. But across the entire provinces of France and Belgium important battlefields and ruins ended up as buried monuments, while agricultural fields which later became battlefields eventually became huge cemeteries. In these areas the visible physical damage remains the testimony to the colossal violence and operation which took so many lives so long ago.
