Focusing on Space Art

During the years 2021 and 2022, I’ve spent most of my time concentrating on working with a mass of space images for an Australian project by Thurmatergia. After 160 deep space images, I’ve learned a lot and came up with my own workflow. Now - I can create these images with utmost confidence.

Apart from space nebulae and anomalies I’ve worked on creature design and studied Unreal Engine 4 in order to create skyboxes and spaceboxes. The idea behind using an engine is to create a large map I could then use to create hundreds of images from different angles and places within the box.

In the long run I do believe that using UE4 and UE5 for spaceboxes will greatly enhance the quality of my work and the speed at which I render space images.

In the meantime, what I’ve learned using AI has grown and has fully merged with my strokes.

My love for nature and experimentation with new technologies has brought me to the point where hardcore AI implementation was not enough any longer. The technology has brought me closer to my goal but my own skill development has outpaced that of the AI algorithms (for now). My clients nor me were satisfied with what we were seeing and eventually I dropped the said tech save a few pieces.

As a quick backdrop or a canvas to paint over the tech works great. I still believe we are some time away before artists can fully utilise this tech. In the meantime Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, Substance Designer and many other tools - coupled with an artist’s skill - outweigh what the rendition of datasets in Python3 or other languages can offer.

Branching out into portraits and character design

When I was much younger, characters were a focus of my work for years. Most of it was alien, robotic and horror-infused. The academic study of muscle structure, face features, motions, gesticulations and other aspects was something I loved. If there is anything I can advice other young artists - study the academic painting. It might seem boring, but it will pay off in the long run. The broader your initial horizons are - the easier it will be for you to adapt and choose what is it you exactly love doing. Not everyone studying physics becomes a nuclear scientist - but the base does not hurt.

Years have gone by, and a decision was made to start painting portraits of my friends and family. After much studying, I can firmly offer my services to the broader public.
